Su Misura is Italian for made to measure. It is a Langhe Nebbiolo from the 2025 harvest, made with Gian Luca Colombo in Piedmont, and the members of Not Yet Named Wine Co. decided, ballot by ballot, what it would be.
Twelve ballots covered the wine. Members chose Nebbiolo over Barbera and Dolcetto, and Roddi over Serralunga for the site. They set the crush, the punchdowns, the fermentation temperature, the pressing. For maturation they picked 700 litre large oak. Between 28 and 56 members turned out for every decision.
Tasting the options
Ballots went out with the things needed to vote on them: tasting notes, photographs from the cellar, a piece on the technique in question. For the fining vote, members visiting Piedmont that spring tasted three versions of the wine, one unfined, one fined with gelatin, one with yeast cells, and voted afterwards.
A label decided in rounds
The label came in stages. First a colour palette: tar and roses, taken from the flavours of Nebbiolo, won against palettes taken from the land and the weather. Then the artist Liv Elson wrote to members with two compositions, and 52 of them voted, the most of the label series.
“Just a quick note before you vote: the small studies in the attached pictures are here to give you a sense of the general vibe. I'll take your steer and then let the composition evolve naturally for the final painting.”
The name went to a ballot like everything else. Su Misura beat Trama in Roddi and Botte Rotta.
The wine is due with members by the end of 2026, wearing the art they chose. A Barolo from Castiglione Falletto, started with the same producer, comes after it.
